Staying Connected Abroad: My Experience with Eskimo eSIM

If you’ve ever travelled and found yourself swapping SIM cards at the airport, hunting for WiFi, or worrying about roaming charges, you’ll understand why eSIMs have become such a game changer. On my recent trip from Singapore → Japan → Taiwan → back to Singapore, I decided to try Eskimo eSIM—and honestly, it made the entire journey so much smoother.

What is Eskimo eSIM?

Eskimo eSIM is a fully digital SIM card that lets you stay connected across multiple countries without needing a physical SIM. Instead of inserting anything into your phone, you simply install it digitally and activate it when needed.

What makes Eskimo stand out is its global approach. With coverage in over 160 countries, you can use a single plan across different destinations without switching providers.

Some standout features include:

  • One eSIM, multiple countries – no swapping SIMs when you land
  • No roaming fees and prepaid data plans
  • Up to 2-year data validity, so nothing goes to waste
  • Unlimited data rollover on certain plans
  • Hotspot support and ability to transfer data to others

It’s basically designed for travelers who hop between countries frequently and need connectivity between multiple electronic devices — which was exactly my situation.

Setup: Surprisingly Simple

One of the things I appreciated most was how easy it was to get started.

Instead of dealing with tiny SIM trays or losing your original SIM, the setup is all done through the app:

  1. Download the app
  2. Choose your data plan
  3. Install the eSIM directly on your phone

That’s it—no physical SIM, no waiting.

Important tip: Make sure your phone is eSIM compatible before purchasing. Most newer iPhones and flagship Android devices support it, but not all phones do.

My Travel Experience (Singapore → Japan → Taiwan)

This is where Eskimo really proved its value.

Landing in Japan

The moment I landed, my data kicked in automatically. No need to queue for a SIM card or connect to airport WiFi. It just… worked.

Moving to Taiwan

Normally, this is where things get annoying—you’d either need a new SIM or risk roaming charges. But with Eskimo, I didn’t have to do anything. The same eSIM continued working seamlessly across borders.

Back to Singapore

Even after returning home, I still had leftover data. Since Eskimo offers long validity (up to 2 years), I didn’t feel pressured to “use it all up” during the trip. You can easily track your leftover data in the app itself.

Why It Felt So Convenient

Here’s what stood out most during the trip:

  • No SIM swapping at all
  • No downtime between countries
  • Instant connection when landing
  • One plan for multiple destinations
  • Leftover data saved for future trips

It genuinely removed one of the usual travel headaches—staying connected.

Final Reminder

Before you buy:

  • Check that your phone supports eSIM
  • Install and set it up before your trip for a smoother experience
